Water Temperature Information:

Elevated water temperatures are associated with increased mortalities. They also signal possible spawning and can trigger a Vibrio outbreak. In the summer, normal temperatures range from 45 to 55 degrees Fahrenheit (7.2 - 12.8 °C). In the winter, normal temperatures range from 30 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit (-1.1 - 4.4 °C). If the temperatures surpass 64 degrees for more than 24 hours, this is cause for concern.

About the Station:

The Homer site is located on the north side of Kachemak Bay. The sonde is deployed at a depth of 3.3 feet (1 m) from the bottom, in water fluctuating between 26.2 feet (8 m) and 55.8 feet (17 m). It is predominately an estuarine environment during summer months when glacial runoff is highest, and during the winter months it reverts to a more marine-like system with glacial runoff at a minimum.
